I just read over your blog, and see that we have similar convictions and a love for Christ. (hi sister!) You, my friend, are the one who has it together tho...your 4th year of homeschool! wow! let me assure you that as long as you are doing what God has called you to do, then you are on the right path - however you want to classify it (unschooler, etc.). Our whole journey of homeschooling started as a result of God's plan - not my own. Every day I am amazed that we're even on this journey. I have no idea for how long...but I am willing.
Anyway, you asked specifically about our "schedule" - I do follow a plan and I try to have somewhat of a schedule each day. We usually start between 8:00-9:00 a.m., after b'fast/chores/piano practice. Both my kids have an "agenda" each week, which is detailed for my 6th grader, but just an overview for my 2nd grader. She likes to "know" what "all" she has to do. I go back and forth with each one til around 10:30'ish, then we all take a break. Then we come back and do a little something else and then have lunch. another break, then we come back together and finish for the day. We're usually done any where between 12:30 and 2:30 - just depends on their motivation and my focus. I try to be flexible, and some days have other activities planned like piano lessons, field trips, doctor appts. etc. No day is ever the same. However, I have found that when I am consistent and focused, they respond much better. Today, for example, I kept getting distracted with laundry (started in the a.m., instead of waiting, and I knew better!) - it's little things like that I need to let go of so I can truly focus on the kids. God has clearly shown me over the last year/half that it is MY attitude, reaction, behavior (my everything) that directly affects my family. I set the tone for everyone else. Therefore, I have to give HIM everything, first thing, every day. When I do that, then everything falls into place. Sometimes I don't realize it at first, but the blessings always come.
I don't know if I've answered your questions. I guess the main thing is that you have to let go and just let God. Having a schedule and an organized method each day works for us...it may be different for you.
Thank you for your email. This week in particular has been a trying one for me - the enemy has tried several times to fill my thoughts with defeat. Reflecting on the questions you posed made me remember why I'm doing what I'm doing, and that God has a plan/purpose for me and my kids - I (and you) just need to allow Him to go ahead of us.
May you have a blessed weekend dear sister,
LisaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
